The community outreach program at Aarohan aims at
taking quality education to children not in school and school
children in underserved rural areas and slums.
Goals: *To
introduce literacy programs to children not in school *To
integrate them into the school system *To
provide them with continued support and guidance through their school
years *To
provide comprehensive education to school going children by augmenting the
existing curriculum *To
provide vocational training and employment assistance as
needed
For the year, 2005-2006, Aarohan will
implement its outreach program in
9 villages and 1 slum area in
Guwahati with
a total of 550 children.
Each area will have a designated Aarohan community
worker/teacher to implement the following programs:

literacy programs for children out of
school
-
bridge
courses to help integrate these children to the appropriate school grade

after school educational programs
-
libraries
-
competitive events, games and sports
-
music, arts and drama
-
basic health care
Special
focus on adolescent girls aged 10 to 16 years:

health
education, including reproductive health
-
domestic
skills, housekeeping
-
hygiene
and sanitation
-
empowerment
and legal issues
-
entrepreneurial
skills for achievement of self esteem
and
self
dependence
An
intensive effort is
being undertaken
to
generate community involvement to support their children’s
education – to instill the belief in parents and teachers that the time to
invest in our children’s education is now and they must play the
leading role in the process. Their active participation is an integral
part of all programs.
Volunteers
will be identified from within the community, and be trained to initiate
and implement all programs with the goal that each area will be able to
achieve selfsufficiency and operate Aarohan programs
independently.
